My iPod is not shown in Windows Media Player

If your iPod is not detected by MGTEK dopisp, or if an error occurs while the iPod is accessed, the iPod may not appear in Windows Media Player when you connect your iPod to your computer. If the iPod does not appear in the tree view of Windows Media Player, please read the notes below:

Install the latest version of MGTEK dopisp

To ensure that you are not troubleshooting a problem that has been fixed already, please install the latest version of MGTEK dopisp. For instance, if you have an old version of MGTEK dopisp installed that was released before Apple introduced a new iPod version, you need to install the latest version of MGTEK dopisp.

You are running the 64-bit version of Windows Media Player

If you are running Windows XP x64 or Windows Vista x64, make sure you are running the 32-bit version of Windows Media Player. The 32-bit version is the default player; however, you can manually switch to the 64-bit version of Windows Media Player, which will break all 32-bit plug-ins for Windows Media Player, including MGTEK dopisp.

Check the iPod status

To check whether your iPod is detected by MGTEK dopisp, do the following:

  1. In Windows Media Player 11, click the Now Playing tab twice, to open the pull-down menu.
  2. In the pull-down menu, point to Plug-ins and click Options.
  3. From the list Category, select Background.
  4. From the list Background, select MGTEK dopisp and click Properties.

Under Devices, you see a list of devices that are detected by MGTEK dopisp. If your iPod does not appear in this list while it is plugged in, it may not be supported.

In order to be able to use the iPod, the status must be Enabled. If the iPod has not been registered with Windows Media Player, click the button Enable.

Enable 'Disk Use' in iTunes

In order to access your iPod, MGTEK dopisp has to be able to see your iPod as a disk drive. If your iPod model supports disabling Disk Mode and you still have iTunes installed, you need to make sure that Disk Mode is enabled.

  1. Open iTunes, and then connect your iPod to your computer.
  2. When the iPod icon appears in iTunes, select it.
  3. In the Settings tab, check the box Enable disk mode.

Check your iPod cable connection

Often, a bad or marginal cable connection to your iPod can cause problems when MGTEK dopisp connects to the iPod.

  • Make sure that your cable is securely connected to your iPod and the USB port of your computer.
  • If you are using a USB hub, try disconnecting and reconnecting it in order to reset the hub.
  • If you are using a front USB port, try using a USB port on the back I/O panel.
  • Verify that your iPod appears in Windows Explorer, and that you can access the iPod through a drive letter.

Format your iPod

Under certain conditions, it may be possible that the data on your iPod becomes corrupted. As a result of this, you may not be able to access the iPod, sync music, or play music on your iPod. For instance, this problem may occur if the iPod is disconnected while a program is accessing the device, or if you use a poorly written application to manage your iPod.

If you do not see your iPod in Windows Media Player, formatting your iPod may solve this problem. To learn how to format your iPod, see the topic Format your iPod.

Try your iPod with iTunes

In order to rule out any problems that are unrelated with MGTEK dopisp, try your iPod with Apple iTunes. If your iPod does not work with Apple iTunes either, it is most certainly not a problem related to MGTEK dopisp and you will have to seek help from Apple.

Contact MGTEK

If you choose to submit a support ticket, provide the iPod status from the procedure above.
