10 July 2008: Update on iPod/iPhone software 2.x
Note: This applies only to an iPod touch or iPhone
With the release of the new iPhone 3G and the iPhone/iPod touch firmware 2.x, Apple is trying once again to lockout third party applications by adding a protection mechanism to the iTunes database.
If you upgrade to software 2.x, the iPhone or iPod touch will not show any music when synced with Windows Media Player, and iTunes will ask you to restore the iPod.
The current version of MGTEK dopisp is not compatible with the iPhone 3G or the iPhone/iPod touch software 2.x. Do not upgrade your iPod firmware if you wish to continue to use MGTEK dopisp.
We are working on making MGTEK dopisp compatible with the new software. We cannot promise that we will find a solution, and we cannot commit to a delivery date.
Updates will be posted on the MGTEK dopisp website. Please check the change-log for new releases.
15 July 2008 Update
It appears that Apple deliberately broke the ability to downgrade the firmware on an iPod touch or iPhone. Once the firmware 1.1.5 or 2.x is installed, downgrades fail with an "unknown error (20)".
However, you may be able to downgrade using these instructions.
25 August 2008 Update
While we made some progress on making dopisp compatible with the new iPhone 2.x firmware, we are still far from developing a solution. Due to the excessive amount of effort that needs to be invested to break the new protection mechanism Apple put in place, we have decided not to continue working on this.
At this time, nobody has been able to circumvent the protection mechanism. However, a community effort has been started to reverse engineer the new hash algorithm. Once the community has found a solution, we will include it into MGTEK dopisp. If you think you can contribute, please visit http://bluwiki.com/go/Ipodhash.
Please do not send us e-mails for updates. If there are any news, they will be posted on this page.
