When a help files is created, Help Producer converts the content of your Word document to HTML, so that it can be viewed in the Microsoft HTML Help Viewer or in a web browser. By definition, HTML is very different from the format that is used in Microsoft Word. Sometimes when a document is converted, certain information is lost, because it cannot be represented in HTML. This can cause the HTML document to look different from the Word document.

If your document does not look acceptable, because of improper formatting or text layout issues, you may need to change some of the formatting of your Word document. Often, the formatting changes that lead to a successful conversion are also beneficial to the overall quality and maintainability of your source document.

To learn more about recommended formatting, see the topic Formatting Guidelines.
